Kansas Wildlife Federation to sponsor Day Camp at TimberRidge

Preliminary announcement of a Day Camp at TimberRidge Adventure Center
to be sponsored by the Kansas Wildlife Federation on June 12, 2013.

The Kansas Wildlife Federation is exploring how much interest there is in a day camp for boys & girls (10-12 years old) at the outstanding TimberRidge Adventure Center in Olathe, Kansas.
The Kansas Wildlife Federation is a 60-year-old grass roots organization that is promoting the benefits of getting children outdoors. Although we are also conducting our annual weeklong Outdoor Adventure Camp at Rock Springs Ranch the week before, this is the first ever day camp the Kansas Wildlife Federation has offered. We chose the TimberRidge Adventure Center because of its excellent record conducting day camps for kids. Their staff will conduct most of the activities and three members of the Kansas Wildlife Federation will also provide expertise. One of those members is Phil Taunton whose radio show “What’s In Outdoors” on KVOE extols the benefits of outdoor experiences for kids. His Last Child on the Prairie is an excellent directory for parents and teachers wanting to know how to provide children with outdoor experiences. Our other two participating members are Cynthia Rhodes (the KWF representative to the “Kansans for Children in Nature” initiative) and Ted Beringer, Northeast Kansas Director of the Kansas Wildlife Federation. A fee would be $25 per child; the camp would be limited to 15 kids. Please notify Ted Beringer, Day Camp Coordinator, by email (beringert@umkc.edu) if you have an interest in having your child attend; place "Daycamp" in the subject line. If there is enough interest, a final announcement with further details will be posted here and in the Kansas City Star listing of summer camps.
Tentative plans have been made that include the following schedule of events at the center:
          9:00 am               Arrival & Paperwork

          9:15 am               Introduction and Games
         10:00 am             Fishing
